Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

Iristel Corporate Overview

Established in 1999, Iristel is a leading global provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services with its headquarters in Toronto, Canada.

The company was granted a carrier license by the Canadian Radio-Television Commission (CRTC) in 2000 and it is a national VoIP service provider with the CRTC’s Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) designation in Canada.

In addition, Iristel offers the broadest portfolio of IP services in Canada, including hosted IP PBX (private branch exchange), virtual faxing, virtual roaming, and global IP trunking products and services. Its expertise includes PBX and VPN (virtual private network) installations for enterprises with multiple locations.

Iristel has also deployed multiple, redundant switching facilities and Points of Presence (PoPs) nationally resulting in the delivery of stable telecom business solutions to its customers. Iristel is a pioneer in the Canadian VoIP market.

Iristel also has an additional 20 points of presence (POPs) around the globe.

The Iristel VoIP network is a stable, redundant and highly sophisticated network offering coast-to-coast coverage to its Canadian subscriber base.  It provides high quality service for billions of minutes of international calls of voice and fax traffic annually.  Iristel’s coverage areas across Canada include cities in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.

Iristel offers hosted IP PBX, virtual faxing, virtual roaming, and global IP trunking products and services through its three corporate divisions: Wholesale Carrier; Retail Services; and Enterprise Solutions.  Its customers include, but are not limited to, residential and commercial customers and ILECs (Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier) and CLECs with Canadian local access requirements.

Iristel’s success is based on the vision, experience and expertise of its founder, Mr. Samer Bishay.  Under Mr. Bishay’s leadership, Iristel has evolved from a small start-up to an international telecommunications service provider with domestic infrastructure licenses on three continents. Today, it is an industry leader setting the course for tomorrow’s new and exciting wireless IP services.

As an innovator in the VoIP market, Iristel announced in December 2007 it was offering dual mode WiFi-enabled (wireless fidelity) GSM (Global System for Mobile) mobile phones for Canadian customers.  These hybrid phones offer users increased accessibility and reduced cost by allowing connections using a local wireless Internet access point to seamlessly switch over to a cell phone network whenever necessary.

IP Mobility

In June 2008, Iristel launched Iristel IP Mobility, a subscriber-based VoIP service that gives users a single point of contact (single number reach) where they can be reached by unifying fixed lines (e.g., office and home) with their cellular service.  Iristel IP Mobility also features Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) technology, enabling users, regardless of their cellular provider,  to seamlessly switch between their cellular network and fixed lines when moving from one location to another (e.g., car to office).

Today, Iristel remains committed to using the most advanced Internet-based technologies to provide Canadians with the most reliable and cost-effective voice and data services in the country.  By building its expertise in wireless IP, Iristel is uniquely positioned to deliver exciting capabilities offered by no other VoIP operator in Canada.  Iristel is Canada’s global VoIP telephone company.
